Then we have a set of basic rules for each of our classes.

We also have rules for these additional classes that are not currently active. If you would like to run one of them please get in touch

Tamiya  M-Chassis Rules (Stock)

The philosophy: Fair and fun racing. Level playing field. Modest budget. Same motor(s) and gearing for everyone. Chassis and components limited to what you would find in the box of a genuine Tamyia M-Chassis kit (including the ‘R’ variants), plus a small number of specifically permitted upgrades (see below). Don’t look for loop-holes!  Build you car to the spirit of these rules and have fun trying to race your car to the front of the field.

Kit: Tamiya M-01, M-03, M-05, M-06, M-07, M-08 (including “Pro” and “R” variants) Tip – M-07 is most popular with our drivers
Motor: Tamiya Torque Tuned or 27T silvercan (Mabuchi RS540SH or Johnson 540J)
ESC: Tamiya Kit ESC (tble-02s) or Hobbywing 1060
Battery: 2S Lipo or 6 cell NiMH
Tyres*:
Rush Mini Tyres 30R Pre Glued / Volante Pre-glued Mini Slick 30R
Tip – Cheaper than Tamiya wheels + tyres without the need to assemble and glue yourself.
Tip – Volante’s 5-spoke wheels are preferred as more robust than their multi-spoke version

OR
Any Tamiya-manufactured 60D size tyre with Any Tamiya insert
Chassis: Kit standard chassis
Body Shell: Saloon/hatchback/van-based shells only. Aerodynamic jelly mould, LMP or GT style shells are not permitted. Shells be designed for M-scale cars of the correct wheelbase and that covers the chassis and wheels without modification of the chassis or body (e.g. no cut outs). General track rules about ground clearance and removing sharp edges that could damage the carpet apply.
Wings: Only original wing supplied with the shell may be used, or a replacement of the same size and profile.  It must be cut to the body manufacturers guide and attached as manufacturer intended with no additional spacers or mounts.
Gearing: Any 20T .6 pitch pinion (or 21T forM-06). Kit standard gear set, or Tamiya reinforced gear set of identical ratio
Differential: Tamiya kit standard gear diff, or alternative sealed oil filled gear diff.
Minimum weight: 1240g
Permitted Hopups: Ball races. Oil-filled shocks. Servo saver. Foam bumper. Universal joint/double carden drive shafts. Aluminium parts which do not provide a speed/handling advantage or alter the geometry.
No other changes from the kit standard parts are permitted.

Additional Notes (not part of the rules, but to aid understanding of them)
If a part is not included in the box of a Tamiya M-Chassis kit and is not an additional item permitted by the rules above then it must not be used. If you’re not sure about a part then you can consult the build instructions or parts section of the relevant Tamiya manual:

M05R Manual
M07R Manual
M08R Manual

A few specific clarifications based on the above information (this list is not exhaustive):

  • Rear anti-roll bars are permitted on the M07 (as included in the M07R kit). No front anti-roll bars are permitted on any model (as not included in any M-Chassis kit)
  • Suspension parts may be aluminium replacements, but must be of the same geometry and angle as the kit original for your model – e.g. M07 front suspension mount = 5°.  If in doubt stick with the original kit part or genuine Tamiya reinforced plastic part which are durable and cheap. (If anyone has time to locate or produce a full list of the parts and angles please share with David Ball and he’ll add it here)
  • Clones of the Hobbywing 1060 ESC are permitted, but must have the same specification and features (e.g. no programmable capabilities, drag brakes, high voltage BEC or anything else the HW 1060 doesn’t have).
